On February 11th, we join the global community to celebrate the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, a day dedicated to highlighting the critical role women and girls play in shaping the future of innovation, technology, and discovery.
Despite the remarkable contributions of women to science and technology, their representation in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) remains disproportionately low—particularly in Africa. At Jumpstart Academy Africa, we believe in breaking these barriers and empowering the next generation of female innovators and leaders.
Why This Day Matters
Inspiring Young Minds: Representation matters. Seeing women excel in science encourages young girls to dream big and pursue STEM careers.
Breaking Stereotypes: Gender biases and misconceptions about women in STEM must be addressed to create an inclusive environment.
Empowering the Future: Investing in women and girls in science creates opportunities for innovation, economic growth, and societal progress.
Our Commitment
At Jumpstart Academy Africa, we are committed to empowering young girls through programs like the STEM Summer Camp and the Tech4Weekend Program. Over the years, we’ve worked tirelessly to:
✔ Provide girls with hands-on learning experiences in fields like coding, electronics, and design.
✔ Offer mentorship from inspiring women in STEM to serve as role models.
✔ Create a platform where girls can innovate, explore, and excel in STEM disciplines.
One of our proudest moments was seeing participants like Civian Massa, who transitioned from a rural background in Cameroon to pursuing Electrical Engineering at the African Leadership University, thanks to the mentorship and training she received.
How You Can Support
🌟 Encourage Girls Around You: Motivate girls to explore STEM fields and challenge stereotypes.
🌟 Be a Mentor: Share your knowledge and inspire young women to consider careers in STEM.
🌟 Spread Awareness: Use your voice to highlight the importance of gender equality in science and education.
Together, we can build a future where every girl has the opportunity to innovate, create, and lead.
Let’s Celebrate & Advocate Together
This International Day of Women and Girls in Science, let’s reaffirm our commitment to breaking barriers and creating opportunities for girls in STEM. At Jumpstart Academy Africa, we’re proud to play a part in empowering young minds to dream big and achieve more.
